In 2004 and 2006, I traveled to the southwest to visit several national parks. I hiked through canyons and gorges in Capital Reef National Park in Utah, observed "hoodoos" at Bryce Canyon, and visited old volcanic sites outside of Albuquerque. I made drawings and watercolors emphasizing the dramatic shapes and brilliant colors of these rocky landscapes. When I returned to the studio, I made this series of monotypes, solar etchings and woodcuts.
